The basics

What is MAKEROOM?

An evolving series of creative, mindful activations in the Arts District, Los Angeles. It’s not a gallery, a retail store or a traditional party. It’s a room for becoming: art, wardrobe, alteration, sound, wellness and hospitality in one space. November 7 is the inaugural activation.

When and where is it?

Saturday, November 7, 2026, in the Arts District, Los Angeles, CA 90021. The afternoon runs 12 to 4 PM and the evening runs 5 to 9 PM.

Is it free?

Yes, MAKEROOM is free to attend. Youth Dealer’s pop-up micro facials and beauty care are available at an additional cost.

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes, please. Tell us you’re coming, who you’re bringing and what you’re making room for. The final address goes to confirmed guests closer to the day. RSVP here.

Where exactly is it?

In the Arts District, Los Angeles. The final address is sent to confirmed guests closer to the day.

Is it all ages?

The afternoon, Make Room to Play from 12 to 4 PM, is all ages. The evening, Make Room to Feel from 5 to 9 PM, is 21+.

The day

What happens in the room?
  • Art: original work by Kay Wheeler and other artists on the brick, and installations that stay live from noon to close.
  • Fashion: a clothing swap, trade and alteration bar.
  • Create: a family-style table of prompts, collage, patches and open-ended making.
  • Sound: quiet enough to work through the afternoon, and a DJ once the light drops.
  • Wellness: a guided breathwork session opens the day, with Youth Dealer micro facials throughout (additional cost).
  • Hospitality: coffee through the afternoon, plus an N/A zero-proof bar and local food vendors throughout the day.
What should I bring?

Nothing is required. For the clothing swap, bring a piece and take a piece, or rework the one you came in wearing.

Do I have to make something?

No. Nothing you make here has to be finished, and you’re welcome to simply be in the room.

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes. Coffee through the afternoon, plus an N/A zero-proof bar and local food vendors throughout the day.

Can I make a MAKEROOM poster?

Yes. Type what you’re making room for and get a poster no one else has. Make your poster.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Proceeds support MAKEROOM through Majestic Art Gallery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donate.

Get involved

How can I help?
  • Volunteer: setup, day or evening shift, roughly three to five hours.
  • Artist / maker: show work, run a table, or make something in the room.
  • Vendor: share your work, sell your goods, or bring something for the room.
  • Breathwork: open the day with a guided session.
  • Photo / video: document the day from more angles.

My business wants to support MAKEROOM. How?

Help furnish the room: tables, seating and racks, clothing for the swap, art supplies for the Create table, coffee and N/A drinks, sound and lighting, photo and video. In-kind donations are received through Majestic Art Gallery, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Email hello@makeroomexp.org.

Who’s behind MAKEROOM?

MAKEROOM was founded by Kay Wheeler, a multi-disciplinary artist and stylist in Los Angeles. Artist & Craftsman Supply is the founding sponsor, Majestic Art Gallery is the fiscal sponsor, and Youth Dealer is the wellness partner.
